REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION
STUDENT PROJECT IDEAS:
1. Interview 2-3 business owners about steps they have taken to reducing their ecological footprint. Then develop a detailed list of additional steps they may want to consider to further reduce their ecological footprint. Be specific. If possible, do some cost comparisons. (Examples: recycling, reduce food/paper/cardboard waste, lighting, heat/AC temperatures)
2. Research the pros and cons of businesses/homeowners using motion lights or solar lights instead of more conventional outdoor lighting. Develop a proposal for two homeowners (your family can be one) to replace outdoor lighting with solar lights and/or motion lights.
3. Conduct an energy audit at NMS during at least 3 flex lunches to see where smart boards, computers, lights, etc are being left on when no one is using them. Then write a letter to teachers reminding them to do their part to save electricity in our school.
